Information
for New Entrants - May 2008
- Sri Sathya Sai
Hostel is a home for Higher learning and Higher living for Bhagawan's
students. Feel free to make it your home and make the best of your stay
here for your personal, spiritual and overall development.
- When you join the
Hostel as a new entrant, you are required to fill the 'Hostel Application
Form'. Kindly fill up the form only after carefully reading the
enclosed disciplinary regulations. The forms will have to be
countersigned by the parent(s) / guardian. The parent (s) / guardian
will have to meet the WARDEN and PRINCIPAL along with the ward, at the
time of admission.
- Your admission to
the Hostel is provisional until you undergo a medical examination conducted
by the Hostel doctor. Any history of chronic ailments should be mentioned
in the Student's Health Record provided. Admission to the Hostel will
be confirmed only after certification by the doctor.
- The Education
in the University is completely free of cost.
The student will have to pay only the boarding charges in one instalment
at the time of joining the Hostel. The charges are Rs.7,500 per
year. A Caution Deposit of Rs. 500 per student is collected at
the time of admission. The Caution Deposit is refundable as and when
the student leaves the University.
- The amount should
be paid by demand draft only. Demand drafts must be drawn
on the following banks only:
- State Bank of
India, Kadugodi. (Code: 5376)
- Canara Bank,
Sri Sathya Sai Branch, Kadugodi. (Code: 2727)
- Demand
Drafts on other banks and other branches of State bank of India and
Canara Bank will not be accepted.
- Cheques of any
kind also will not be accepted.
- The Hostel adopts
a dividing system of accounting, which facilitates an equal division
of hostel expenditure among all the residents. Deficit or Surplus if
any will be charged at the end of the semester.
- The students must
open their personal savings bank accounts with a minimum balance of
Rs.500, with Canara Bank, Sri Sathya Sai Branch, Kadugodi. The Hostel
Office will arrange to open the accounts with the bank during the first
week of June. Students are strictly advised not to keep too much
cash with them.
- Each student will
be allocated a cupboard and chair in a room with 10 to 12 other students.
The student will have to keep all his personal belongings and study
material and books in the cupboard allotted. The students are advised
to keep their cupboards locked
when they are not in the rooms.
- The Hostel has the
facility of a general store adjacent to it. The Sri Sathya Sai University
Consumer's Co-operative Society Limited is a co-operative society of
which all students will be members. The students can purchase all their
daily requirements from the stores. Any other items like textbooks etc.,
can also be procured through the Co-operative Society.
- Other facilities
provided in the Hostel include:
- Laundry facility
(in the mornings every alternate day)
- Telephone facility
(including STD and ISD)
- Photocopying facility
- Computer facility
- Library and reading
room (ennobling literature - books and magazines)
- Dispensary
- Hair cutting saloon
- Tailoring facility
The hostel
campus is self-sufficient in every way. The students are not allowed
to move out of the campus for any reason.
- The Hostel dispensary
is attached to the Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital, Whitefield and Sri
Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Whitefield. All medical
care for the students is provided totally free of cost. Dr. Ramkumar,
of the Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital is available for consultation
in the mornings between 8.00 a.m. and 9.00 a.m., for consultation on
all Tuesdays and Fridays.
- Students can make
telephone calls to their parents through the in house telephone facility
provided in the hostel, during specified timings. Possession of personal
mobile phones is NOT PERMITTED. The parents can also call their wards
between 7.00 a.m. and 9.00 a.m. and 4.00.p.m. and 6.00.p.m. on working
days on the following numbers - 080 (STD CODE) - 28452233, 28453672
and 25917612. Parents are requested not to call their wards during the
study hours between 8.00 p.m. and 9.30 p.m.
- The Sri Sathya
Sai Hostels act as training grounds for developing a strong wholesome
personality. The healthy practice of community living helps the students
to develop the virtues of adjustment and self-reliance. The students
under the guidance of the resident teachers manage all the major activities
of the hostel. Each of the departments has a teacher-in-charge with
students attached to it. The various departments for self-reliance activities
in the Hostel include - the dispensary, the audio-visuals, the maintenance
department, telephones, dietetics, kitchen, photocopying facility, library
etc.
- Early to bed and
early to rise is a good habit. All students will have to retire to bed
by 10.15 p.m. every night.
- Every student must
equip himself with the following essential items at the time of joining
the hostel:
- At least four (4)
pairs of white dresses
- Two sets of track
suits
- Bedding with blanket
and bed spreads
- Bucket and Mug
- Plate, tumbler and
spoon
- A pair of sports
shoes (Canvas or any other type)
- Warm clothing like
sweater, shawl etc., for the winter.
- Students are required
not to bring expensive items like cameras, video-cameras etc. Use of
electronic gadgets like MP3 players, ipods, mobile phones etc. is strictly
prohibited. Parents / Guardians are requested to ensure that their wards
do not get any such gadgets with them to the hostel.
- Students must submit
eight (8) recent passport size and eight (8) stamp size photographs
taken in formal white dress, with well-groomed hair, short sideburns
and clean shaven face. Photographs in colour dress will not be accepted.
The photographs will be used for the records of the University, Hostel
and bank.
- Students are required
to submit the following certificates in original at the University Office
latest by 25th June 2008:
Transfer
Certificate, Conduct Certificate and Xth and XIIth Class Marks Statements.
Failure
to comply with the above will result in the cancellation of admission
to the University.
PLEASE
NOTE THAT THE Xth CLASS MARKS STATEMENT MUST BE SUBMITTED IN THE PRINCIPAL'S
OFFICE AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION ON 31.05.2008.
- Parents / Guardians
are expected to meet the Warden and Principal at Brindavan, at least
once every semester to apprise themselves of the overall development
of the ward.

DISCPLINARY
REGULATIONS
Maximum
importance is attached to discipline in the Hostel. Students are to
note that on matters of discipline, the hostel authorities are extremely
strict. Every student is required to carefully read the rules and regulations
given below and strive earnestly to put them into practice.
- All the students will have
to take part in the daily spiritual routine consisting of early morning
prayers, meditation, bhajans, night prayer etc., in the Hostel.
- The first step in discipline
is silence. Students are strictly forbidden from indulging in idle chat
and indecent loud talk.
- Mutual courtesy, gentlemanly
behaviour and decent unostentatious dress habits are to be cultivated.
Sporting of long hair and sideburns is strictly forbidden.
- Visitors are not
allowed to enter the Hostel premises. Parents and relatives of the students
may visit their wards between 7.30 a.m. and 9.00 a.m. and 4.30 p.m.
and 6.00 p.m. on working days and between 8.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. on
holidays.
- Attendance at classes,
prayer sessions, tests, examinations and other programmes in the University
is compulsory.
- Social service is
one of the important features of the University. Active participation
in social service prescribed by the authorities is mandatory.
- The practice of
students wanting to go out of the Hostel premises for various reasons
on working days or holidays is strongly discouraged. Overnight stay
outside the hostel is forbidden. Students are sent home only during
the vacations at the end of the semester after examinations. However
in the event of a student's presence being absolutely necessary at home,
the parent should write to the Warden for permission and grant of leave
and the student can leave for home if the permission is given.
- The students may
possess apart from textbooks, only literature of an elevating nature.
Any other literature and magazines are strictly forbidden.
- The use of mobile
phones, MP3 players, ipods, radios, transistors, tape-recorders and
other electronic gadgets is strictly prohibited.
VIOLATION
OF RULES
There is no
compromise on the issue of discipline. Any violation of the rules stated
above and also those communicated to the students orally from time to
time, will be seriously dealt with by a warning in the first instance
and later with expulsion from Hostel. Expulsion from Hostel will amount
to expulsion from the University.
