INFORMATION FOR NEW ENTRANTS - MAY, 2008

  1. Sri Sathya Sai Hostel is a home for Higher Learning and Higher Living for Bhagawan’s students. Feel free to make it your home and make the best of your stay here for your personal, spiritual and overall development.

  1. When you join the Hostel as a new entrant, you are required to fill the ‘Hostel Profile Form’. Kindly fill up the form only after carefully reading the enclosed disciplinary regulations. The forms will have to be countersigned by the Partent(s) / guardian. The parent(s) / guardian will have to meet the warden along with the ward at the time of admission.

  1. You are required to submit your Health certificate in the prescribed format sent to you (if not submitted earlier). Your admission to the Hostel is provisional until you undergo a medical examination conducted by our doctor. Any history of chronic ailment should be mentioned. Admission to the Hostel will be confirmed only after certification by our doctor.
  2. The Education in the University is given completely free of cost. The student will have to pay only the boarding charges in one installment at the time of joining the hostel. The charges are Rs.7,500 per year. A caution deposit of Rs.500 is collected at the time of admission. The caution deposit will be returned at the end of your stay in the hostel.

    1. The amount should be paid by demand draft only. These demand drafts for the total amount of Rs. 8,000 must be drawn in favor of the Warden, Sri Sathya Sai Hostel for senior students. These must be drawn on the following banks only.
      • ING-Vysya Bank Ltd Yenumulapalli-Code: 704
      • State Bank of India(SBI), Prasanthi Nilayam-Code: 2786

      Demand drafts on other banks and other branches will not be accepted Cheques and Cash also will not be accepted.

    1. The Hostel has adopted a dividing system of accounting, which facilitates an equal division of hostel expenditure among the residents. Deficit, if any, will be charged at the end of each semester.

    1. Fine will be charged for late payment.

  1. The students must open their personal savings bank account with a minimum balance of Rs.500 with SBI. The hostel has an extension counter of SBI in its premises. This is mandatory irrespective of possessing any type of account in any other bank. The hostel office will arrange to open, if needed, the accounts with bank during the first week of June. Students are strictly advised not to keep too much cash with them.


  1. Each student will be allocated a cupboard and chair in a room with 9 to 14 students. The student will have to keep all his personal belongings study material and books in the cupboard allotted. The students are advised to keep their cupboard locked when they are not in the rooms.

  1. The Hostel has the facility of a General Store attached to Sri Sathya Sai Staff & Students Welfare Society. This is a society that provides all essential facilities for Hostel residents. Normal timings for the general stores are in the evening between 7.15 p.m. and 7.45 p.m. Other facilities provided in the Hostel include:
      • Laundry facility ( in the morning every day)
      • Telephone facility
      • Photocopying facility
      • Computer facility
      • Library and reading room (ennobling literature)
      • Dispensary
      • Hair cutting saloon (Tuesday is a holiday)
      • Tailoring facility

    The hostel campus is self sufficient in every way. The Students are not allowed to move out of the campus for any reason.

  1. The Hostel Dispensary is attached to the Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital, Prasanthinilayam and Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (SSSIHMS), Prasanthi Gram, which offers treatment and medications totally free of cost.

    Dr. Chakravarthy from SSSIHMS and Mr. Bhagia (Homoeopathy) are available for consultation in the Hostel dispensary every evening from 7.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.

  1. Students can make telephone calls to their parents through the in house ITC telephone facility provided in the hostel, during the specified timings. Possession of personal mobile phones is NOT PERMITTED. The parents can speak to their ward on the telephone 08555- 287234. The extension number to be dialed and other details will be given after the student’s room allotment is completed. Parents are requested not to disturb the students during the day or odd hours. The facility will be put off during the study hours and at the time of meetings.

  1. Sri Sathya Sai Hostels act as training grounds for developing a strong wholesome personality. The healthy practice of community living helps the students to develop the virtues of adjustment and self-reliance. The students under the guidance of resident teachers manage all major activities of the hostel. Each activity/ department has a teacher-in-charge with students attached to it. Various departments for self-reliance activities in the hostel include – the dispensary, the audio-visuals, the maintenance department, telephones, dieteics, kitchen, photocopying facility, library etc.

  1. Discipline is the ‘medium of instruction’ in Sri Sathya Sai hostel. To keep up the standards of discipline, the students are required not to possess MP3 players, MP4 players, ipods, mobile phones, laptops or any other electronic gadgets. Only memory sticks (pen drives) without the MP3 facility are permitted for academic use. Parents/Guardians are requested to ensure that their wards do not get any such gadgets with them to the hostel.


  1. Every student should equip himself with the following essential items at the time of joining the hostel:
      1. At least four pairs of white dresses
      1. Two sets of Track Pants and T-shirts
      2. Bedding with blanket and bedspreads
      3. Mosquito net
      4. Bucket and mug
      5. Umbrella
      6. A pair of sports shoes for jogging and games
      7. Plate, tumbler and spoon.

    Note: The above items can also be procured through the Hostel General Stores.

  1. Students must submit eight passport size, recent, color photographs taken in formal white dress, with well groomed hair, short side-burns and clean shaven face with the name & class written behind each photograph. Photographs taken with coloured dress will not be accepted. These photographs will be used for the records of the University, Hostel and Bank.

  1. Students are required to submit the following certificates in original at the University Campus office latest by 25th June 2008:

    Transfer, Conduct and Study Certificates, Xth and XIIth class Marks Statements.

    Failure to comply with the above will result in the cancellation of the admission to the University.

    PLEASE NOTE THAT THE Xth CLASS MARKS STATEMENT MUST BE SUBMITTED IN THE PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION.

  1. Parents/Guardians are expected to meet the Warden and the Wing teacher, at least once every year to apprise themselves of the overall development of their ward.

DISCIPLINARY REGULATIONS

In this University the medium is Discipline. The first, second and third languages are Love, Service and Sadhana.

  1. Every student of Swami’s University is expected to be disciplined wherever he is. Training is given in the Hostel for shaping each boy into an exemplary student.

  1. In the matter of discipline, every student is expected to follow the rules and regulations and strive earnestly to put them into practice in every day life.

  1. Humility is the firm foundation for a strong character. Obedience to elders and teachers is to be practiced sincerely.

  1. All the students will have to take part in the daily spiritual routine consisting of early morning prayers, meditation, bhajans, night prayer etc., in the Hostel.

  1. Students should show mutual courtesy and gentlemanly behaviour and promote harmony. They should cultivate decent and unostentatious dress habits and have short, neat and well-groomed hair. Sporting moustache, beard or long side-burns is strictly forbidden.

  1. Students should not indulge in loud and idle talk. Silence is to be maintained in the Dining hall, in the Mandir and during study hours in their rooms.

  1. Punctuality and regular attendance at classes, prayers, tests, examinations and all co-curricular programmes in the Campus and the Hostel is compulsory. In case the student is not able to attend classes or any of the other programmes, on account of illness, he is required to seek prior permission / leave from the Warden/concerned teacher.

  1. Social service is one of the important features of the University. Active participation in social service prescribed by the authorities is mandatory.

  1. The students may possess apart from textbooks, only literature of an elevating nature. Any other literature and magazines are strictly forbidden.

  1. The use of mobile phones, MP3 players, ipods, radios, transistors, tape-recorders and other electronic gadgets is stringently prohibited.

  1. Going out of the Hostel premises, for any reason other than going to the University Campus and Mandir during fixed timings, is normally not considered. Overnight stay outside the Hostel is forbidden.

  1. Students can go home only during the vacation. (Railway Concession forms are issued by the University two months before the date of vacation). They will not be sent home for festivals, Marriage engagements, and Weddings of cousins etc. They will be permitted to attend the Wedding ceremonies of their own brothers & sisters only.

  1. Students requiring to go home on valid grounds, should furnish the following to the Warden:

  1. The request letter from the parent.
  2. Leave application addressed to the Warden.

    The Warden, will then permit the student to go home depending on the number of days of leave already taken by the student. The student should positively return to the Hostel within the stipulated date.

  1. Visitors are not allowed to enter the Hostel premises. Parents or guardians are requested to visit their wards, preferably only on Sundays between 10.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. In case of any urgent situation they may meet their wards after evening bhajans on weekdays, without disturbing any special class schedule. They may speak to their ward on the telephone. ([08555] 287234). The extension number for the room and other details will be given after the student’s room allotment is completed. Parents are requested not to disturb the students during the day or odd hours. The facility will be put off during the study hours and at the time of meetings.

  1. Early to bed and early to rise is a good habit. Hence the students should go to bed soon after night prayer.


There is no compromise on the issue of discipline. Any violation of rules above and also those communicated to the students orally from time to time, will be seriously dealt with by a warning in the first instance, and later with expulsion from the Hostel. Such expulsion from the Hostel will also result in expulsion from the UNIVERSITY.
